US Engineering Company Associate Vice President - Virtual Construction in Westminster, Colorado

Primary Purpose: The Virtual Construction AVP will oversee the management of Enterprise wide Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and solutions, while also leading the Virtual Construction (VC) team. Effectiveness in this position is critical toward meeting our overall procurement and operational execution strategies. This position has full responsibility for VC production, processes and R&D with the goal of achieving leading edge practices consistent in both regions which are productive and in line with our strategic direction.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Establish and enforce Corporate-wide BIM standards and procedures across the Company.

  • Managing and developing a high-performance team through supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Ensure team members interactions are in alignment with the established Cultural Norms.

  • Set policy for software type and configuration based on industry standards and our own research and development.

  • Collaborate with President of USE Construction and other leaders, including regional Virtual Construction leaders, to implement operational objectives and goals.

  • In collaboration with the President of USE Construction, develops team operational objectives and goals that support the overall business plans for the regions and the company.

  • Developing and managing the VC / BIM operating budget and expenses.

  • Creates and assigns developmental projects for BIM teams across the Company.

  • Monitors overall quantity and quality of detailing operations for the Company, and makes recommendations for improvements in quality and/or efficiency.

  • Serves in the capacity of subject matter expert on all VC / BIM related technology for the company

  • Provide proposal content and participate when needed in preparation and selling presentations to Customers and Peers.

  • Serves as the highest level of customer contact related to USE VC practices, teams and project performance.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Drafting Technology preferred

  • Equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience will also be considered

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical construction industry experience required.

  • 5 years’ experience managing a BIM group is required.

  • 3 years’ experience in Revit and at least 5 years’ experience in AutoCAD is required.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of various construction operations methods, processes and industry standards. Thorough understanding of complete project life cycle.

  • Thorough knowledge of virtual construction and BIM tools and applications in cost, scheduling, estimating, and coordination principles.

  • Thorough understanding of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.

  • Proficient with BIM-based computer applications such as Autodesk Revit and Autocad MEP 3D. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of industry best practices in construction safety and ability to foster a culture of safety excellence.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage diverse operational teams (e.g. project teams, functional teams, etc.) to achieve results, despite multiple and changing priorities. .

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills; proven collaborator able to establish and foster effective professional relationships, internally and externally.

  • Ability to accomplish results through others by leveraging peoples’ strengths, supporting their development, creating clear expectations, setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals, removing barriers, managing performance and administering accountability.

  • Excellent time management skills and operates with sense of urgency.

  • Adaptable and flexible to changing environment – embraces change when necessary and manages it effectively.

Physical and/or travel demands:

  • Work done in a combination of environments; includes office setting, job sites, external meetings, etc. Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, keyboarding, use of monitor and telephone. Occasional reaching, stooping and lifting required.

  • Visual acuity is required to discern drawings, and manual dexterity for operating computer equipment.

  • Frequent travel between the two main region (Rocky Mountain and Midwest) construction offices will be required.
