As a team we collaborate tosolve problems, contribute ideas and challenge each other to ensure growthand ultimately success for the business and our employees.Job Description and ResponsibilitiesThe Laboratory Metallurgical is a key technical position to assist withevaluation in regard to mechanical testing and metallurgical evaluations ofour products and will be responsible for the integrity of all testing and testresults in the metallurgical laboratory.The position will contribute to testing and investigations performed in thelab, and provide technical support outside the laboratory working on productand process improvement projects. This includes supporting development,execution, and analysis of process trials working with the respectiveprocess and product development engineers, coordinators, and mill personnel.This position will be responsible for the integrity of all testing and testresults in the metallurgical laboratory* Develop and/or improve lab testing practices* Identify new laboratory test equipment, testing methods, and technologies* Responsible for assisting the Product Metallurgist with all testing andevaluations performed in the metlab to include rail, rod, and tube products* Support Process Technology and RandD development and process improvementefforts through assistance with experimentation and material evaluation* Participate in trials and material testing through communication with therespective mill, metallurgy laboratory staff, and/or developing testingprotocols as needed* Assist with customer complaint investigations to include failure analysisas needed* Work with companies and organizations involved in long products, such asrailroads, on customer engagement focused related research efforts* Ability to train lab personnel in required job functions to includemechanical testing and metallographic evaluations* Work to improve laboratory testing efficiency and reduce time from sampleacquisition to reporting* Assist in the development of mechanical and metallographic test protocolsfor development of material and/or commercial grades of rail, rod, andseamless tubing as needed* Utilize statistical tools, subsequent to six sigma green belt training,to ensure robust laboratory test data is produced (MSA) and monitored perstatistical process control techniques* Assist in the implementation of SPC in the metlab* Monitor test results to identify variation or process upsets and report toquality and operations* Basic understanding of the requirements of national and internationaltubular, rail, and rod product and testing standards and related customerspecificationsRequirements* B.S. or M.S. Metallurgical or Materials Engineering* Basic knowledge of metallurgy and metal forming with good problem solvingskills* Experience in the performance of mechanical testing and metallography* Good problem solving (including root cause analysis), statisticalanalysis and planning skills* Experience writing technical reports summarizing key findings andidentifying next steps* Experience presenting/documenting research findings* Capable of using Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Project,Outlook and PowerPoint, SolidWorks, and/or AutoCAD* Basic understanding of failure analysis and fractography* Able to work effectively with both hourly and management personnel* Good oral and written communication skills* Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a plus* Knowledge of six sigma is a plus* Auditing training a plus* Knowledge of machining processing and programming a plusCompensation:* $56,300 - $70,000Our total compensation package includes amazing benefits!* A bonus may be paid to eligible employees based upon organizational andindividual performance* Family medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage at minimalemployee cost* Short and long term disability programs* Retirement Account contributions and (401k) with
