The Advanced Quality Planning Leader for our Commercial HVAC Americas Strategic Business Unit (SBU) will influence business bottom line results by leading, facilitating and reporting Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) activities for new product development programs and changes using TTPDP (Trane Technologies’ Product Development Process) standard work. The responsibility includes oversight of all quality related aspects from design to production readiness (AQP / TTPDP), risk assessments, launches, validation, product transfers and management of change and controlled hand over to the manufacturing plant ensuring product quality and customer satisfaction by leading a group of Advanced Quality Planning specialists utilizing visual management (key leading indicators and performance metrics) for AQP effectiveness and providing feed-back and actively suggesting improvements to the lean quality management system.
Ideally this position will be based in one of our engineering centers (St Paul, MN; Clarksville, TN; La Crosse, WI; Lynn Haven, CT or Pueblo, CO) though geographically flexible.
Serve as leader for the CHVAC Americas AQP team. Train and mentor SBU AQP engineers on responsibilities, procedures, and processes, including assisting in development and monitoring the implementation of training plans for new team members.
Provide AQP leadership across 120+ NPD projects across 20+ different product platforms and 8 different locations.
Partner with the SBU Chief Engineer to advance our Independent Design Review (IDR) processes from a manufacturing, assembly and supplier standpoint across all projects.
Manage and advance the conflict management aspect of our business across our projects and design review processes.
Develop a stronger supplier qualification process for components and systems related to New Product Development projects including criteria that Enterprise Commodity Teams must build into the supplier selection process.
Ensure that program goals including quality and reliability are met in compliance with customer and internal specifications, product requirements and project deliverables.
Lead AQP group activities with focus on Component Risk Assessments, DFMEA moderation, definition of Critical To Quality (CTQ) characteristics, Design Verification Planning (DVP&R).
Create a center of expertise on Advanced Quality Planning and PPAP and provide guidance, leadership and best practices towards all departments and manufacturing facilities.
Oversee AQP capacity requirements to support all NPD programs and major changes and ensure adequate resources are allocated.
Identify gaps and create strategic plans for closure of quality and reliability targets related to AQP activities within NPD programs.
Act as Quality conscience and gatekeeper in the Product Development Process reviews including coordination of Quality Assessment of all projects through the Gate 5 closure of each project.
Utilize various tools to evaluate the effectiveness of AQP including Gemba, management reviews, internal audits, feedback from internal and external customers, warranty data, and traceability, etc.
Complete Maturity Path and deploy Enterprise BOS standard work relating to Advanced Quality Planning activities
Review, challenge and simplify existing, develop, and apply quality driven test systems and procedures to assure products meet intended use and customer expectations. Organizational Relationships:
The AQP Leader reports to the Vice President of Quality for the business unit, with contributing relationships to other functional groups such as Engineering, Sales Offices, Operations and Supply Chain.
This role collaborates with Engineering Directors for Independent Design Review (IDR) and provides AQP leadership to the Product Growth Teams (PGT).
The person in this role must also build and manage productive relationships with external partners including strategic suppliers, quality leaders and universities
Participation is also required in a peer network with the Chief Engineer and Quality Leaders of other SBUs
Direct reports include AQP/PPAP Engineers across multiple sites
The incumbent on this role would be a high potential talent on success to the VP of Quality
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
Professional certification (CPM, APICS, Six Sigma, CQM, PE, etc.) is preferred
15 years of experience in quality or quality engineering in an design, engineering or manufacturing environment that has embraced best practices in terms of Advanced Quality Planning, DFMEA deployment and Production Part Approval Processes.
Demonstrated strong leadership and applied knowledge in: APQP, DFMEA, PPAP
Operate as a peer to the Chief Engineer and Enterprise Commodity Managers
5 - 7 years of experience leading a team of individuals (experience with TT systems a plus)
Experience in quality management, operations, lean manufacturing processes including visual management
Excellent interpersonal skills, mentor, team player including professional customer and supplier interaction capability
Ability to travel up to 35% with some peaks at higher levels.
Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and motivate associates and to interact with various departments throughout the organization
Team oriented proactive change agent with a hands-on, collaborative approach in implementing and maintaining operating disciplines while leveraging lean methodologies
Problem solving techniques, process improvement tools, statistical and sampling techniques, SPC, process capability, traceability, control points
Metrology techniques such as Measurement System Analysis (MSA), calibration standards and systems, measurement error and its sources, and control and maintenance of measurement standards and devices
Project management and planning tools, measuring and monitoring of project activities and project documentation. Proficiency in information technology systems utilized in Quality Management Systems and process

Base Pay Range (for Colorado Residents): $143,500 - $267,000
Additional Compensation: 15% - 30% Incentive
