Danaher Corporation Program Manager, R&D New Product Development in Loveland, Colorado

The primary role of this position is program management of new product development (NPD) and sustaining efforts within the R+D organization in partnership with the business units, including coordination of the global cross-functional team members’ activities to meet the prescribed design requirements, schedule, and production readiness, and also serve as the primary project communication link between R+D and other company departments. This role will assume responsibility and accountability for meeting product development requirements, fulfilling product definition, meeting product and project cost goals, quality objectives, and time-to-market objectives.

Essential duties and responsibilities:Voice of the Customer

The Program Manager will interact with external Customers, Part Vendors, Contract Service Providers, Quality System Auditors, and OEM Suppliers

Product Development

This position significantly impacts the delivery of new products for the company. The Program Manager facilitates the timely investigation, development and release of analytical systems, which generate continuing revenues for the corporation while providing our customers with accurate analytical results. The Program Manager is also responsible for assuring these development projects are performed according to Hach’s documented Quality System procedures and within budgetary and quality expectations.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of projects and programs that lead to product conception, definition, design, and release to manufacturing.

  • Develops, maintains, and executes detailed project schedules, project plans and budgets.

  • Organizes and actively participates in technical design reviews across electrical, mechanical, software and chemical systems

  • Organizes and actively participates in project phase change reviews.

  • Demonstrated understanding of some of Hach internal systems

  • Adheres to quality system requirements in the development of new products.

  • Develops and implements team building activities or exercises as needed.

  • Develops and fosters contacts with customers, technical specialists, dealers, salespeople, and regulatory agencies.

  • Travels as vital to aid in project facilitation

  • Demonstrates understanding on how and when to apply DBS tools like 3P and standard work to a project.

  • Receives supervision primarily on unique and unusual situations.

Builds People, Teams and Organizations

  • Lead the development efforts by global team members.

  • Is responsible either directly, or indirectly through delegation for all project management requirements assigned by the program manager, including platform and derivative projects. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Plans and execute projects to meet Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives

  • Develops project plans following PMI based standards

  • Leads change control processes on projects

  • Develops risk plans and sometimes proactively handles risk on assigned projects using the impact chain and other tools.

  • Utilizes standard project management practices like work breakdown structure, resource leveling, network diagrams, and scenario analysis to develop project schedules

  • Lead projects with global design and manufacturing teams including internal Hach teams, offshore OEM’s and GPD partners

  • Compiles, records, and distributes required status reports, test results and other required documentation

  • Maintains development-related documentation and the project history file.

  • Leads communication from individual contributor level to senior level management on project status, issues, risks, and opportunities

  • Handles projects in the DDS system.

Education and/or Experience

The ideal candidate is a hardworking professional who can develop talent, champion innovation, and deliver results.

  • BS in Engineering or the physical sciences

  • 5+ years in product development, engineering, or manufacturing environment preferred, with at least three years of direct experience with product development

  • Broad understanding of products and processes, including design, manufacturing, and market use of products.

  • Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in project management of product development projects from concept through commercialization.

  • PMP certification is desired if complementary to above experience.

  • Working understanding of NPD methodologies.

  • Knowledge and use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.

  • Ability to utilize commonly accepted project management tools to assist in the development of, and adherence to the schedule.

  • Working understanding of the project management body of knowledge (PIMBOK)
