Area of InterestEngineeringSalary/HourlyHourlyGeneral SummaryThe Designer I is responsible for the accurate design of roof and floortrusses, walls and components for single family and commercial projects.Works under general supervision; exercises little discretion and judgment onwork priority on a regular basis.Principal Duties/Responsibilities Design metal plate connected wood trusses and Wall Panels utilizing Miteksoftware. Optimize designs for maximum efficiency. Review orders, layouts and data files for accuracy Assist sales and production with design service and troubleshooting Performs other duties as required. Must be able to work onsite.RequirementsKnowledgeMinimum high school graduate. Preferred bachelor degree in related disciplineor equivalentMinimum 2 to 5 years of experience in related field/responsibilities.Working knowledge and experience using Mitek software is preferred.Working knowledge of floor and rood systems and the ability to spec out beamsand hangarsSkills and abilitiesProficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing andspeakingAbility to read and understand blue printsStrong math skillsAbility to use a computer terminal, and proficiency of the use of Mitek andother business and design related software.Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the publicAbility to communicate effectively with others, including customers,peers, and managementAbility to manage several activities/projects at once, to organize andprioritize work, to meet deadlines, to prepare plans, goals and budgets.Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time, be mobile in thework environment, and work hours mandated by management.Ability to pass a drug testConductSelf-managing; works well under little supervisionHighly motivated and enthusiasticGood interpersonal skills and good communicatorBe a team player and support the Company's goalsConducts in a professional mannerUniversal Forest Products and its subsidiaries and affiliates are equalopportunity employers.
