This position, based out of North Colorado, supports all of our laboratories in Fort Collins and surrounding areas. This position also provides support to our Western Division laboratory facilities located inside Banner Health Medical Centers, which include Wyoming, Nebraska, Nevada and California (travel to Western Division will only happen 1-2 times per year).
This position provides comprehensive environmental, health and safety technical expertise and support for the System Safety Manager for the development, implementation and administration of the environmental health and safety program to ensure all applicable regulatory compliance.
1.Develops, implements and administers environmental, health and safety program to reduce injuries and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Works with system wide leadership to identify, evaluate and control environmental, health and safety hazards. Works with leadership in implementing injury prevention controls to mitigate risk in respective work areas. Participates in policy development, implementation and enforcement. Reviews and standardizes procedures between sites where possible.
2.Assists in hazardous waste program management to ensure compliance with federal RCRA, EPA and state DEQ regulations. This includes all waste profiling, waste determinations, LDR’s, manifesting, environmental audits and required reporting. Accountable for completion of all required environmental reports at various frequencies.
3.Works with System Leadership to investigate work related injuries. Determines root cause and corrective action as necessary. Provides assistance and guidance for System Leadership in implementation of corrective action to prevent recurring injuries. Performs ergonomic evaluations of work areas/work stations, as needed.
4.Develops and facilitates environmental, health and safety training, as required. Evaluates, reviews and updates environmental, health and safety training, as necessary, to remain compliant with current regulations. Ensures system employees receive documented safety and health training, as required.
5.Promotes, supports and exhibits behaviors consistent with Mission, Vision and Values of Laboratory Sciences of Arizona and Sonora Quest Laboratories. Fosters a team work environment with strong emphasis on patient, visitor, employee and customer-focused care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT FACTORS
Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking. Requires course facilitation in a live classroom setting. May be required to lift up to 40 pounds. Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment. Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects. Must wear personal protective clothing as required and must use universal precautions (PPE) due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids. Ability to communicate effectively. May require off-site travel.
Must possess a thorough knowledge of environmental, occupational health and safety regulations as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in occupational safety, environmental studies, industrial hygiene technologies or engineering, and three (3) years of experience developing, administering and implementing environmental, health and safety programs, or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation regulatory requirements, knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, knowledge of either U.S. EPA regulations and/or Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulations; knowledge of OSHA Recordkeeping, Blood borne Pathogen, Hazard Communication and General Industry Safety Standards.
Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Additional related education and/or experience with the following: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Hazardous Materials manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), OSHA 30 Hour Course, HazWoper, First aid and CPR training.
