Navarro is seeking an experienced, full-time mid- to senior level quantitative groundwater scientist whose primary duties will be to support Navarro’s Department of Energy, Office of Legacy Management (LM) Support contract in Grand Junction, Colorado. Legacy Management has responsibility for monitoring and remediating, if necessary, groundwater contamination at multiple LM sites located throughout the United States. The quantitative groundwater scientist will be assigned to the Groundwater and Geochemistry Group.
Groundwater and soil contamination evaluations for the Legacy Management sites are performed by the Navarro, Groundwater and Geochemistry Group which consists of Master and PhD level geologists, hydrologists, engineers and geochemists. The quantitative groundwater scientist position requires strong technical skills related to groundwater flow, contaminant transport, vadose zone hydrology, and groundwater flow and transport modeling. Successful candidates are expected to be able to determine project objectives, develop appropriate investigatory methodologies, schedule and complete the work in a timely manner and deliver a high quality report at task completion. Excellent writing skills are a primary job requirement. Job candidates are expected to be able to work with other group members to produce technically sound and defensible products. Occasional travel may be required for the position.
In addition to working with the Groundwater and Geochemistry Group, the Quantitative Groundwater Scientist position will have the opportunity to participate in the LM, Applied Studies and Technology (AS&T) program. AS&T studies are designed to support the LM mission through improved understanding of processes that affect remedy protectiveness and performance, including evaluation and application of advancements in technology. Ongoing AS&T studies include; long-term disposal cell cover performance, plume persistence, enhanced natural attenuation, system operations and analysis at remote sites, data mining and project visualization and educational collaborations. AS&T studies are not limited to the ongoing studies; any study related to LM’s mission will be considered for inclusion in the program.
Master’s degree or PhD in hydrology, geology, engineering or a closely related field
At least five years of applicable experience.
The candidate must have strong quantitative groundwater skills and demonstrated abilities to solve complex groundwater problems.
Preference will be given to individuals having demonstrated groundwater modeling experience.
Requires excellent written and verbal communication and client interaction skills.
Will be expected to work effectively as part of an integrated team and mentor junior staff.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens (or be authorized to work in the U.S.) and have a valid driver license.
A minimum of three personal or professional references is required.
