Job Summary

As a member of the Integrated Devices and Systems research staff the successful candidate will conduct research in the area of power electronics for renewable energy, with a focus on wide-bandgap Silicon Carbide (SiC) systems for photovoltaic (PV) and wind applications. This research will include developing PV inverter models and controller algorithms, performing computer simulation studies, performing real-time simulations using hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems, and developing and testing power electronics hardware and firmware for a high-powered SiC-based PV inverter significant HIL testing method development.

The successful candidate will develop reports on technical work and input to technical publications and presentations, publish results in technical journals/conference proceedings; present work at conferences, symposia, and review meetings while following all Environment, Safety, and Health policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment. A large amount of interaction with other IDS staff is expected as well as external collaborators.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced experience with medium-voltage (e.g. 15 kV Class) power electronics

  • Advanced experience with power hardware-in-the-loop testing

  • Knowledge of IEEE 1547 DER interconnection standard

  • Excellent writing and communications skills

  • Ability to present technical results to a wide audience

  • Knowledge of power systems and their modeling

  • Existing skill in Opal-RT/RTDS

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
