Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

The role will be to support Research and Development (R&D) activities in the Biosciences center primarily for the Bioenergetics Group and the Physical Biochemistry & Photosynthesis Groups. The NREL biosciences center works to understand the function and design principles of biological systems that capture and convert energy to develop transformative technologies to produce advanced biofuels.

What to expect:

  • Routine cleaning of lab glassware and operation of dishwashing equipment, sterilizing glassware.

  • Assisting in maintaining an organized lab space.

  • Responsible for stocking lab supplies and maintaining high cleaning standards of laboratories and equipment.

  • Organizing and cataloguing of lab use, and perform work in accordance with NREL's safety standards with care and precision.

  • Coordinate routine maintenance and repair of general laboratory and experimental equipment

  • Handle biological waste, and non-hazardous chemical waste.

  • The hire will report directly to the Group Managers and are encouraged to correspond and support research staff.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Basic experience working in a biological research laboratory.

  • Moderate experience including the handling of glassware and operation of industry-scale dishwashers, general sterilization procedures and operation of autoclaves, familiarity with sterile techniques.

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in molecular biology, biochemistry, engineering, or related fields.

  • Capable of taking initiative, high standards of cleanliness, and being very well-organized.

  • Capable of supporting multiple research projects with attention to detail and ability to multi-task

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Annual Salary Range: $39,600 - $63,500

Offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
