Position Title:Data Scientist Pay Range:$62,900.00 - $118,200.00Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate's education,training and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity,the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, andexternal market and internal value when determining a salary level forpotential new employees. The Opportunity:The Data Scientist's role is to harness vast amounts of data to optimizebusiness results. The incumbent will exercise their knowledge of descriptiveand multivariate statistical techniques and applications, and databaseanalysis tools and techniques to develop strategic insights to drive businessgoals. The data scientist works hard at advancing the state-of-the-art in howdata is applied to solve problems in our institution. They are alsoresponsible for teaching data analysts, data users, and data consumers howto work effectively with vast quantities of data. The Data Scientists will bepart of a team that is building a robust, reliable, agile data culture.The incumbent will support our collaborative partners by developing simple tocomplex business intelligence queries, reports, dashboards, analysis,statistical and/or predictive modeling techniques to support data informeddecisions and any other defined deliverable. This position will support theimplementation and maintenance of a data governance and management system toimprove data quality and transparency which will improve our efficiency ofdelivering data quickly. This position will support the Director ofInstitutional Research and Strategic Analytics with analyzing and fulfillingexternal reporting obligations that adhere to state and federal policies.Data Strategy and PlanningWork with cross departmental team to define metrics, guidelines, andstrategies for effective use of data.Work closely with stakeholders to identify, design, and build appropriatedatasets for complex experiments.Create data mining and analytics architectures, datastandards/definitions, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies.Establish links across existing data sources and find new, interestingmash-ups.Coordinate data resource requirements between BI team, functional users(e.g. report writers) and DB teams.Work with stakeholders, ES, and BI team members to translate prototypesinto production.Assist in the development of data management policies and procedures.Develop best practices for analytics composition and consumption.Data Quality and Data Governance ManagementEnsure usable and trustworthy data is available to the business and itsprocesses.Analyze and recommend improvements to data management components in order tosupport improved data quality.Coordinate efforts between ES, BI Team and the business units that manageand maintain the quality of data assets on an ongoing basis.Investigate data quality issues, and work with data stewards to determineroot cause and design corrective plans that enable the maintained integrity ofdata assets.Develop and maintain the day to day operations of the data management andgovernance system including system set-up, instructions, and training forend users.Lead the development of data definitions, data classification, datastandards and data quality in collaboration with the data stewardsDevelop monthly reports for the Data Governance Advisory Board on status ofdata definition development, data quality resolutions and issues preventingthe delivery of data efficiently.Conduct quality assurance checks on reports and data prepared for internal andexternal dissemination and develop tools for internal data audits.Supports the effort of data literacy by implementing it into dailyconversations, coaching data requestors, increasing the quality of howdata is used to answer questions.Acquisition and DeploymentConduct research and make recommendations on data infrastructure, analyticstools, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement anddevelopment efforts.Drive the colle
