Description of Work Unit

The Department of Physics is comprised of 20 regular full-time faculty members with research programs in theoretical and experimental condensed matter physics; atomic, molecular, and optical physics; and high-energy and particle astrophysics. Research activities often require the construction and modification of custom scientific instrumentation. Information about the Department of Physics may be found at http://www.physics.colostate.edu. This site also has links to information about Fort Collins and environs. It is an attractive community of about 160,000 inhabitants on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, 65 miles north of Denver. Fort Collins is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States.

Prof. Berger’s HEPPA theory group studies the phenomenology of a variety of models beyond the Standard Model of particle physics and interfaces closely with the HEPPA experiment group. Members of the CSU High Energy Physics and Particle Astrophysics experimental research group work on several forefront experiments to explore the fundamental properties of neutrinos: the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), T2K, NOvA, Fermilab Short-Baseline Neutrino (SBN) program, EXO-200 and nEXO. The HEPPA program has been designated a Colorado State University Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence.
