Description of Work Unit

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University (CSU) is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. CSU is one of three core academic institutions that comprise the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI). Many faculty in Human Development and Family Studies engage in multidisciplinary research collaborations with other CCTSI institutions and affiliates, including the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Position Summary

Researchers in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at CSU are looking for a postdoctoral fellow for a therapy trial aimed at preventing depression and type 2 diabetes in at-risk adolescents. This trial takes place at the Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) in Aurora, Colorado. The postdoctoral fellow’s position will involve conducting a group cognitive-behavioral intervention and administering psychiatric assessments at CHCO for girls at high-risk for depression and type 2 diabetes. Responsibilities also include overseeing a research coordinator in the recruitment of study participants and data collection. Opportunities for this position include: (i) involvement in related clinical trials addressing psychosocial risk factors for obesity and cardiometabolic disease; (ii) training and supervision in short-term psychotherapy; (iii) mentorship from expert multi-disciplinary collaborators in the fields of psychology and endocrinology at CSU and CHCO; and (iv) encouragement and mentorship in development of an independent research program.

Required Job Qualifications

Must have doctoral degree in clinical psychology or related field.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Some prior experience working with adolescents and/or individuals with depression, weight problems, and/or diabetes (type 1 or type 2) is preferred. A two-year commitment, with the opportunity for extension, is requested.
