Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.
An Archaeologist (Research Associate I Special) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) out of the Fort Collins, CO office. This position will require frequent travel to conduct fieldwork and will involve site recording, testing, and excavation. This position also involves artifact analysis and preparation of artifacts for curation in a laboratory setting.
Required Job Qualifications
1) Bachelor’s degree in archaeology/anthropology or a closely related field. 3) Experience in archaeological survey, testing, excavation, site recording, photography. 4) Experience in site mapping using both GPS and total stations. 5) Experience in processing, cataloging, and preparing archaeological artifacts for curation in a laboratory setting. 5) Must have a valid and current driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date. 6) Ability to lift up to 20lbs, walk across rugged terrain, bend, lift, work outdoors and in inclement weather. 7) Willingness to travel for extended periods and/or frequently. 8) Successful completion of an archaeological field school. 9) The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
1) Experience in artifact illustration 2) Familiarity with MS Access databases 3) Professional experience conducting archaeological testing and survey in the Central Coast of California preferred. Familiarity with Central Coast California prehistoric artifact types preferred.

Job Duty Category Archaeological Fieldwork
Travel to work locations and participate in archeological survey, testing, data recovery excavations, evaluation, and monitoring as needed. Contribute to written reports, complete or update site form/documentation and updates
Participate in identification surveys of archaeological and architectural resources and archaeological site evaluations for National Register of Historic Places eligibility concerning sites, buildings or structures that may be affected by projects identified during the environmental impact review process.
Investigate and report on known sites, recent discoveries, and inadvertent finds, and review artifact curation and monitoring as well as visit sites and record data on the condition of cultural sites.
