Lockheed Martin Mechanical Engineering Manager Propulsion in Englewood, Colorado

The selected candidate will handle leadership functions including the responsibility for managing the necessary personnel to execute the assigned tasks and functional oversight to engineers within the Mechanical and Propulsion Design (Solid and Ordnance Subsystems); specifically Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Propulsion Engineering, technical discipline. Provide solution based technical mentoring to improve program performance and to drive error free design through the use of proven tools, processes and predictive measures. Work collaboratively with the program, functional leaders and control account managers to manage staffing requirements and plan job assignments and rotations to sustain engineering capabilities and critical skills unique to FBM Propulsion Engineering. Responsible for performance management, career development and other personnel related activities. The selected candidate will be expected to support technical contract and subcontract management duties across FBM Propulsion Engineering activities (motor production, production support services, deployed systems support, advanced program support and special studies support). Provide program oversight of deployed systems support activities (cost, schedule and technical requirements). Support the generation of statements of work, basis of estimates, technical assessments and proposal negotiations.

Basic Qualifications Knowledge of the Full Spectrum Leadership model and the competencies that are necessary to fulfill leadership expectations.

Demonstrated evidence of successfully executing Full Spectrum Leadership imperatives is required and will be discussed with applicants who are interviewed.

Excellent communication, presentation and people skills.

Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering BS, MS or PhD or demonstrated equivalent job experience.

Experience in managing projects/programs to meet customer requirements while meeting program objectives.

Familiarity with subcontract management activities.

Demonstrated experience interfacing with subcontractors, suppliers, and/or Customers.

Desired skills Extensive familiarity with D5 missile propulsion system design and/or component designs. Extensive experience with solid propulsion or ordnance system development, test, manufacturing and operation. Experience with the analytical/design/test techniques used to evaluate solid propulsion system designs and performance along with the analytical/test tools used to work anomalies to closure. Familiarity with the development of statements of work, basis of estimates, technical assessments and proposal negotiations. Familiarity with Certified Principal Engineer (CPE), duties/responsibilities as it pertains to propulsion system design, development, test, manufacturing and operation. Demonstrated leadership of a team of engineers to meet technical and programmatic objectives. Experience/knowledge with Control Account Management and earned value management systems. Green Belt / Black Belt Certification.
