Vice President of Civil Engineering

At VERTEX, our Vice Presidents (VPs) are critical to our US and global growth strategy and embrace our culture of urgency, entrepreneurship, honesty, integrity, safety, pursuit of value-added services, and pride. The VP is responsible for building, right-sizing, and managing staff in their office, and to work with other VPs and Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs) to ensure our multi-discipline office approach is followed with efficiency and precision.

Specific Job Duties

Business Development

  • Develop and implement an aggressive sales program to develop existing accounts and new key accounts

  • Assist Division Managers with local business development and client relationships

  • Cross-sell other Service Areas to existing clients

  • Monitor and utilize CRM to enhance and manage the Business Development efforts

Operations

  • Oversee and ensure accurate Contracts for work within the Service Area

  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy.

  • Manage Division Managers that fit within the VERTEX corporate culture, and can grow the Service Area within their Office

  • Be a technical resource for the design staff, assist with staff management

  • Oversee the management of multiple jobs

  • Help develop strategy that aligns with company vision and objectives, ensuring Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) are met

  • Ensure compliance of operations with all local, state and Federal (and International, if applicable) regulations, as well as compliance with Company Policy

  • Ensure high quality on deliverables for the Service Area

  • Serve as a liaison with corporate functions (F&A, Safety, Legal, HR, etc.)

Financial

  • Review office utilization on a regular basis, and make necessary adjustments to improve billability

  • Manage collections efforts for the office and take necessary action to deal with delinquent accounts.

  • Review Office Earning Reports regularly to monitor and manage financial goals for the Service Area and make necessary adjustments to improve profitability.

  • Review Project Detail Reports regularly to monitor and manage Budgets and Net Revenue within the office and make necessary adjustments to improve profitability.

  • Be personally billable; based on targeted billability as set forth by the Managing Director.

Position Requirements

  • Active P.E. licensure in Massachusetts and/or Colorado preferred, or the ability to achieve PE quickly in these states.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, science or engineering field (i.e., Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Construction Management, Geology, etc.) or a bachelor’s degree with over 10 years of experience in the field.

  • Advanced degree preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten to fifteen years’ experience in Civil Engineering

  • Proven track record of Business Development

  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills

  • Strong Communication, Interpersonal Skills, and emotional intelligence

Knowledge & Skills

  • The proven ability/experience to generate new work.

  • Able to provide oversight and direction to junior and senior level staff.

  • Experience in providing Senior Review for technical report deliverables.

  • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities, and have the ability to perform exceptionally under high stress conditions

  • Excellent writing skills and organizational skills.

  • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe) required
