We are proud and excited to offer summer internships for 2021 across several of our different office locations and are currently seeking Technical Services Intern to join teams located in Denver, CO.

Our B.L.U.E. (Build, Learn, Understand, Enrich ( ) summer internship program is purposefully designed to be an authentic reflection of what it means to be an integral part of McKinstry. This is achieved through our hands-on, summer-long program structured to build a foundation of industry knowledge while personal and professional growth is facilitated through collaboration, exploration, and mentorship. From weekly "lunch & learn" sessions to our 2-day all-intern event, we believe in connecting our interns to various aspects of the company so they can truly evaluate potential career paths within the work we do. What we look for in our Technical Services Interns:

  • Must be pursuing or have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Energy & Building Systems, or a related field. Junior student standing or higher required.

  • Availability in Summer 2021 (May/June start until August/September depending on school); part-time availability after Summer preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and possess excellent follow-up skills.

  • Must be self–motivated, able to multi‐task, and work independently.

  • Ability and aptitude to read and interpret construction plans, specs, contracts, proposals, estimates, and other regularly encountered items.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio required; working knowledge of SharePoint and MS Project preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to and from job sites across the greater Denver region (mileage reimbursed)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

What are our Technical Services Interns responsible for:

  • Supporting team and Program Managers in the various building projects including:

  • TSO process - transitioning buildings to sustainable operations.

  • AEM process - actively managing and monitoring building energy

  • Commissioning - building the close-out process

  • M&V - measuring and verifying building energy

  • Assisting Engineers to perform design reviews of construction documents before the construction phase.

  • Performing site visits and operation tests in existing buildings including static commissioning on a variety of HVAC systems for the purpose of validating completion and proper installation.

  • Understanding, maintaining, tracking, and operating test equipment with due responsibility.

  • Learning to understand the design concept and intent by reviewing mechanical construction documentation, including drawings and scheduled equipment.

  • Recording accurate, complete, and legible data into appropriate forms.

  • Working with coordinators to schedule required equipment calibrations.

  • Coordinating and performing assigned work by prioritizing tasks and responsibilities sensitive to project schedules and McKinstry’s expectations.

  • Attending and participating in meetings or discussions representing McKinstry’s best interest.

  • Assisting to verify the control system point-to-point, including establishing acceptance criteria, obtaining completed reports, performing verification, and spot-checking for validation.

  • Reviewing as-built documentation for accuracy and completeness.
