Burns & McDonnell Project Manager - Networks, Integration and Automation in Denver, Colorado
Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for a Project Manager in our Denver office to manage Networks, Integration and Automation (NIA) design projects related to private communication networks for utilities, transmission and distribution automation systems and the integration of intelligent devices. Our rapidly growing NIA team needs a Project Manager to support new and ongoing project workload. The right candidate will have the opportunity to become the main client point of contact for clients in the NW. Project support needs range from small multiplexer conversion projects up to support for multimillion dollar engineer-procure-construct projects. This Project Manager will have the opportunity to help manage new and existing multimillion dollar client portfolios and expand Burns & McDonnell’s service offerings with our growing client list in the Northwest. An entrepreneurial spirit and strong leadership abilities are a must.
This individual will grow a project team, further client relationships around our major clients and build a national reputation for execution.
The Project Manager will manage, direct and coordinate all aspects of work related to greenfield and brownfield multiple concurrent projects at communications sites, or to support communications upgrades on substation projects. The Project Manager will report directly to the Manager of Projects and is responsible for the profit and loss of individual projects, the successful completion of projects within specified dates, and establishing and maintaining a professional and satisfactory relationship with the Owner, subcontractors, regulatory agencies and other project stakeholders. Additionally, Project Manager will assist Account Managers with direct marketing efforts for new and existing clients.
Major responsibilities for the Project Manager will include:
Prepare proposals, assist in presentations, and participate in contract negotiations. Actively market and pursue sales with new and existing clients.
Serve as project point of contact with Owner regarding efforts such as client coordination, strategic planning, scope management, and budgeting.
Provide overall management of projects from concept to completion including coordinating with multidisciplinary groups (Substation, Civil/Structural, distribution, protection and controls, etc.) as well as siting, environmental, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project controls, bid phase services, procurement, constructability reviews, material management, construction management, and closeout.
Provide inspirational leadership by attracting, retaining, motivating and developing high caliber, multi-discipline talent
Identify target clients for Burns & McDonnell and cultivate effective relationships with existing and potential key clients, customers and contractors to develop business
Lead project teams
Develop and monitor project schedules, manage scope, and control project costs.
Assist with internal project financials (detailed, accurate project cost forecast and accruals), staffing, legal coordination, risk management, change management, and human resource issues.
Serve as primary point of contact with client regarding efforts such as client coordination, strategic planning, master scope management, budget finances, subcontracting, project staffing, environmental compliance, facility support and schedule attainment.
Manage all aspects of project communication.
Develop and implement project policies and procedures, establish project controls systems and implement the project execution plan.
Work closely with the Project Team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines. Be able to act as a technical lead the development of project design templates and standards for new clients and projects, and perform QA/QC.
Report regularly on progress, cost and schedule metrics, procurement issues, safety or environmental concerns, design questions, potential impacts, and any issues requiring office support.
Candidates for this position must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related field from an accredited curriculum. Minimum of seven years of utility Networks, Integration and Automation project experience with at least 3 years related project management experience. Professional Engineering (PE) registration preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government and public contracts on project-related matters. Demonstrated ability to develop and manage work plans, schedules and budgets and provide leadership to a diverse project team. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to travel. Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
