Summary of Duties:

Responsible for performing a wide range of trade specific activities for industrial and commercial clients.

Skills, knowledge, and craftsmanship to complete most or all types of commercial projects. Ability to work alone or as part of a team. Willing to share and impart industry knowledge to apprentices working underneath them. Produce quality workmanship while completing projects on time and on budget. Read and interpret blueprints and specifications accurately. Good working knowledge of system layout and duct design. Good product knowledge and application skills. Read and interpret product installation, engineering, and owner's manuals prior to equipment installation. Demonstrates the ability per blueprints to layout, set/mount equipment, rough-in and trim duct systems, "B"-type venting, PVC venting, condensate piping, low voltage and control wiring for rooftop equipment, make-up air units, exhaust fans, ERVs, unit heaters, variable air volume terminal units, zoning dampers, dampers, actuators, furnaces, fan coils, heat pumps, and condensers. Good time management to stay on task and on schedule.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform job specific activities.

  • Oversee the activities of crews.

  • Perform some layout activities.

  • Perform some material takeoffs as necessary.

  • Trade related material, tool, and equipment requisitions.

  • Perform planned maintenance tasks as prescribed.

  • Perform equipment start up with associated documentation.

  • Perform quality control inspections on RK Mechanical service work.

  • Technical trouble shooting and diagnostics when needed.


  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

  • All employees are accountable for safety and health and are empowered to stop work if an unsafe condition is present. Employees should immediately notify their supervisor so that the hazard may be corrected.

  • RK Mechanical employees and subcontractors are required to implement and maintain all safety and health systems practices including the training requirements of RK Mechanical Orientation, shop specific orientation, CPR/First Aid/AED/Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Identification and Reporting, and OSHA 10.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

  • Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas.

  • Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations.

  • Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.

  • Work in all types of weather.

  • Must have working knowledge of all trade materials and tools.

  • Ability to lift and carry 51 to 75 lbs. occasionally, and/or 31 to 45 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 16 to 22 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Specialist/Journeyman Career Level:

  • Receives direct supervision.
