is currently seeking an experienced Hydrogeochemistry/Modeling Lead to design, direct, review and manage hydrologic and geochemical field studies and groundwater modeling activities and work products associated with the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This strategic leader will be part of the Tech2 Solutions (Tetra Tech-Sealaska Joint Venture) Project Team for the N3B Los Alamos LLC team, which was awarded a 10-year, $1.3B contract.

The successful candidate will function in a lead role for the LLCC helping to develop site management strategies and play a significant role in the investigation and evaluation of potentially contaminated shallow and deep groundwater in the vadose zone and regional aquifer, and development of remediation strategies and plans. Contaminants of concern include both toxic chemical constituents and radionuclides. This role will also serve in a management capacity for interactions with Los Alamos National Laboratory's site management and operations (M&O) contractor.

Hydrogeochemistry/Modeling and field activities could include: field investigation scoping; development of Data Quality Objectives; work plan development; justification of approaches to LANL, regulators and stakeholders; sampling oversight; data assessment activities; statistical and risk analysis; report preparation; and risk communication.

This lead role requires quantifying the nature and extent of contamination as a result of past releases through a combination of field studies and measurements and numerical models.

Duties could also include the review and ability to synthesize hydrogeological and environmental data from field investigations and technical reports; development of conceptual site models including surface water/vadose zone/groundwater water interactions and contamination and lead the development of groundwater flow and transport models to support site characterization and environmental site remediation.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIALEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • MS or PhD in engineering, hydrogeology, geochemistry, or a related field

  • 10years of experience in conducting groundwater field studies and applying groundwater flow and solute transport models for remediation applications at DOE or similar project sites

  • Practical and programming expertise in one or more of the following codes: Goldsim, FEHM, MODFLOW, MT3D, RT3D, and PHT3D

  • Experience developing groundwater remediation strategies and plans based on field studies and numerical models

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Possess team leadership potential, technical capabilities, and strong aptitude

  • Motivation, initiative, and attention to detail

  • Solid understanding of fundamentals of hydrogeology, geochemistry, flow in porous media, contaminant fate and transport in environmental media

  • Strong quantitative skills and ability to solve complex technical problems

  • Proficient in mathematical and statistical analysis of groundwater flow and solute transport

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Familiarity with the LANL site, access requirements, general employee requirements, and work environment preferred

  • The qualified candidate may be required to attain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

  • Complies with all health & safety policies and practices

  • Complies with all site access and security requirements

  • Individual must pass a pre-employment drug screen and accept all company policies. This position may require a physical fit-for-duty screen as well
