Space/Cyber Engineering Intern

Description

Join a dynamic team at MITRE’s Colorado Springssite involved in delivering solutions for some of the governments mostchallenging and immediate problems. As a member of the Space, Cyber &Intelligence Solutions department (P432), you will gain valuable technologyexperience as you assist in prototyping and research projects in agile softwareengineering, algorithm implementation, process modeling/optimization, andcommand and control systems. This position is for 8-12 weeks in the summer withpossible follow on throughout the year.

Key Functions:

As an engineering intern, you will work onprojects that could include some of the following type activities:

  • Conduct modeling andsimulation analysis to evaluate the performance of new algorithms and/orwaveforms

  • Evaluate and automatetelescope employment for precision spacecraft tracking and orbit determination

  • Research improvements toastrodynamics algorithms and implementations

  • Implement and evaluate aKalman filter to estimate spacecraft position, velocity, and attitude usinginformation provided by multiple sensors

  • Design and implementvirtualized environments to test and analyze effectiveness of variousengineering solutions

  • Create and manipulate amathematical model of an operational activity and analyze potentialimprovements

  • Assist in the developmentof new and improved systems with emphasis on analysis and design, softwareintegration, technology assessment, and software prototyping

  • Develop prototypes in afast-paced environment

  • Research, design, anddevelop technical solutions for MITRE sponsors

  • Assist with lab and computernetworks, hardware and software configurations

  • Document and presentresults in technical reports and briefs

  • Keep pace with current andemerging technologies and apply them to ever-changing problems

  • Work effectively in a collaborative, and sometimes physically dispersed,team environment

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshootingskills

  • A passion for emerging technologies and theirapplications towards solving real-world problems

  • Excitement about applied mathematics, operationsresearch, physics, computer science, aerospace engineering, computerengineering applications, electrical engineering, or equivalent engineeringdisciplines

  • Familiarity with or strong desire to learn cuttingedge technologies such as mobile computing, cloud computing, gamification,electrical engineering, mathematical modeling, cybersecurity principles

  • Working knowledge of programming languages suchas Java, C , Oracle, Python, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, MATLAB

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge of software engineering includingsoftware development practices, workflows, and tools is desirable

  • Familiarity with software development technologiessuch as Git and build scripting (Ant, Gradle, Make) is preferred for someprojects

  • A strong interest in working with and learningfrom engineers and scientists that are solving our nation’s most criticalproblems

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate computerscience, mathematics, physics, engineering or related degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of software engineering includingsoftware development practices, workflows, and tools is desirable

  • Familiarity with software development technologiessuch as Git and build scripting (Ant, Gradle, Make) is preferred for someprojects

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A strong interest in working with and learningfrom engineers and scientists that are solving our nation’s most criticalproblems

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate computerscience, mathematics, physics, engineering or related degree
