Leidos Senior Mission Systems Maintenance Field Technician in COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado

Leidos has an opening for a senior systems maintenance and installation field technician working with our Systems Engineering team supporting the Space-based Infrared System (SBIRS) SMC/RSL system sustainment office. This position is located in Colorado Springs; primary work location will be Peterson AFB.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This work involves leading a small team of field maintenance technicians and supporting systems engineering team members in time critical responses to periodic requests for technical support and depot level maintenance repair actions to mobile ground terminal equipment. Candidate must be knowledgeable in satellite communications (SATCOM), downlink serial data processing principles, testing, message packet test equipment use and system level troubleshooting. Equipment being maintained runs the gamut from fresh water pumping systems, vehicle mounted 60KW diesel powered generators and HVAC to satellite tracking antennas and cryptologic devices. The selected candidate for this position will be expected to develop detailed troubleshooting plans using available technical documentation and drawings and also in instances where there is minimal technical data. The selected candidate also needs to be knowledgeable in modification integration and project planning. The position supports the Government team in selecting new or updating existing ground segment satellite communications equipment. Future system modernization efforts require the candidate to be able to assess equipment capabilities, interfaces and identify and recommend candidate equipment capable of meeting mission requirements.

This position is an integral part of a team responsible for developing viable solutions necessary to modify sub-system equipment establishing updated baselines. This includes conceptualizing, some high level design, and ability to evaluate proposed modifications to ground-based communications systems. The selected candidate will be expected to support development of standard engineering products and ability to accomplish tasks required from the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) phase through Critical Design Review (CDR) phase. This person will be expected to draft, identify necessary resources, coordinate and execute installation and check out plans (IC&O), including formal post installation testing. In addition, the selected candidate will support updating the formal technical data to include engineering drawings, technical orders and interface control documents (ICDs).

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant subject area and equivalent experience.

-5 or more years of overall related experience.

-Professional skills areas include, but are not limited to: ability to work independently, review and redline engineering drawings, ability to identify technical data needs, estimate required resources to complete changes.

-Ability to write trip reports detailing depot level actions taken on site by the team, draft and present power point presentations and coordinate schedules for accomplishing modifications and system testing events.

Preferred Qualifications

-Relevant and direct experience with standard Air Force Maintenance disciplines space system sustainment, experience working with mobile communications and data downlink systems preferably with military satellite communications systems (MILSATCOM).

-The ability to communicate with engineering and configuration management staffs and Air Force maintenance and operations personnel on-site that operate and maintain the mission systems equipment.

-Some experience with network based communications systems and fiber equipment is also desirable.

-Requires active* DoD Secret security clearance* - candidates without clearance will not be considered.
