Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking an experienced Aerospace Engineer to perform programming and algorithm development to support national security space modeling, simulation and analysis. The candidate will support performance and suitability, development and evaluations of space and multi-domain CONOPS, systems, and hardware.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for quantitative analysis, orbit determination, decision analysis, capability analysis, system engineering requirements analysis and trade studies, analyses of alternatives, design of experiments, and architecture analysis.

  • Support programs by creating models, simulations, and analysis tools to support national security space analysis activities.

  • Generate system requirements for ground software by generating and performing parametric modeling.

  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluations alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, and operations.

  • The candidate will work with software development teams to implement and validate models, ultimately resulting in user capabilities.

  • Develop new algorithms and processes, enhance current tool capabilities, and perform analyses.

  • Interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under guidance of senior technical personnel.

  • May act as a technical lead for limited aspects of a project.

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • If working out of the Colorado Springs, CO location, 25% travel will be required to Chantilly, VA.


  • 12+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or other Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline. Alternatively, 10 years of prior related experience with a Graduate Degree, or equivalent.

  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance required.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance with CI Poly highly preferred.

  • Deep understanding of the space environment, including but not limited to orbit analysis and GNC pointing analysis.

  • Understanding of space object tracking sensors, networks and data, including capabilities and limitations.

  • Ability to apply astrodynamics to real world problems. General understanding of methods of orbit determination and prediction, and use of orbital state data.

  • Ability to compare the performance of architecture variants and conduct trade studies.

  • Experience in supporting modeling, simulation, and analysis of national security space related problems desired.

  • Experience with both Waterfall and Agile approaches to Systems Engineering.

  • Experience working with software development teams and associated Agile development processes.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with C# and .NET a plus
