Defines and conducts moderatelycomplex scientific measurements and experiments. Records and evaluates data.Develops models describing technical phenomena; evaluates availableanalytical models for application to specific areas of analyses. Performsmoderately complex analysis and trouble-shooting. Responsible for the setup,assembly, use, maintenance, and calibration of equipment (GCMS) andprocesses. Interacts with sponsor staff responsible for monitoring projects.Reviews progress and defines project priorities, schedules and objectives.Develops and maintains frequent contacts with customers. Assists inidentifying opportunities for new program initiatives and follow-on taskingfor current projects and participates in proposal efforts. Prepares andassists others in the development of status reports, letters, technicalmemoranda, contact reports, technical analyses or other outputs needed.Prepares and provides formal briefings to staff and customers and participatesin technical discussions at project review sessions and in negotiations withthe customer. Acts as task leader in efforts that are moderately complex insco(Site Specific) - Organizes and directs the daily activities of a specificmobile laboratory location. Responsible for supervising laboratorypersonnel, and maintenance staff. Assures appropriate quality assurance andquality control policies are followed and implements appropriate correctiveaction if necessary. Prepares and reviews reports. Maintains assigned budget.Performs GC/MS, or LC/MS/MS laboratory analysis and data validation asrequired to maintain laboratory throughput. Evaluates operations and makesrecommendations to improve operations. Holds planning & strategy meetings.Suggests modifications to existing protocols & standing operatingprocedures, equipment, processes or techniques. Participates in evaluationprocess to include set up, operation & monitoring of equip &apparatus, & more complex experimental procedures involving novel samples.Provides technical guidance, instruction & oversight. Assists with labmaintenance. Schedules experiments, suggests new equip, summarizes &records data in official notebooks, orders supplies & maintains a safe workingQualificationsAccredited bachelor's of Chemistry degree or a related scientific disciplinewith 30 hours of chemistry and 4-6 years environmental laboratory experience.An MS degree in chemistry or physical sciences with 30 hours of chemistry andten or more years of experience as an analytical chemist preferred.Familiar with a variety of analytical chemistry concepts, practices, andprocedures including EPA SW-846 methods and EPA Air Methods. Relies onexperience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety ofcomplicated tasks reporting to the to the Program Manager.A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skills.
