Douglas County, Colorado, is searching for four (4) enthusiasticindividuals seeking a paid internship for the Department of Public WorksEngineering - Engineering Services. Positions are funded for the summer of2021. Flexible work schedule and hours are possible to accommodate schoolschedule. This position is based out of Castle Rock, CO.PROGRAM OVERVIEWIf you are a highly talented individual looking for an outstanding opportunityto gain real-world knowledge, skills and experience in working in aprofessional engineering office, the Douglas County Internship Program maybe right for you.This temporary position is expected to run from mid-May to mid-August or up to12 weeks but can go over, depending upon the workload needs and budget ofour department.The typical hiring rate is $17 per hour. Returning seasonal employees mayreceive additional compensation.As a temporary position, no benefits are available.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFieldwork assisting with Data Collections of Sidewalks and Handicap Ramps.Assist in the physical assessment and documentation of slope, cross slope,curb and gutter condition, pavement condition, sidewalk width, truncateddomes, and barriers.Fieldwork assisting with Data Collections of Street Signs and Markings.Assist in the physical assessment and documentation of Street Signs andMarkings.Assist in the physical assessment and documentation of storm waterquality/detention ponds.Assist with projects that involve working on or adjacent to roadways, stormsewers, sidewalks, curb and gutter, ramps, storm water ponds.Inputting New Data associated with project mapping utilizing GIS and GPStechnologies.Assist with the export and validation of data to ensure completeness andaccuracy.Assist Engineers to perform studies and reports.Follow all safety regulations, policies and procedures.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering,Construction Management, or other closely related field and have completedat least one academic year of college coursework. Applicants must be at least18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.The candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills and theability to complete reports and calculations using Microsoft Word and Excel.Must be willing to conduct outdoor site visits, sometimes in adverse weatherconditions; perform moderate lifting on a frequent basis, and be able todrive a County passenger vehicle. Receiving an internship offer is contingentupon the candidate's successful completion of a background and drivingrecord check, and medical and drug screening.Must be authorized to work in the United States and a US citizen or permanentresident.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONValid Colorado driver's license, background check and pre-employment drugscreening required.
