Manager – MQA Receiving Inspection

The MQA Receiving Inspection Manager will be responsible for leading and advancing the incoming material verification and CMM dimensional inspection functions at Ball Aerospace. This role will engage with all functions of the company including Inventory, Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, Contracts, Mission Assurance, and Supply Chain Management. It employs a skillset that includes knowledge of electrical and mechanical components, inspection and test best practices, human resource management, and an understanding of the balance between inspection fidelity and efficiency in the risk context of the Aerospace and Defense industry.
Ultimately, you will be an essential part of the front end of the Integrated Supply Chain – where all the material is sourced, where it enters the product realization process, and upon where the company relies to ensure compliant parts are delivered on time. You will be a key part of Ball’s procurement risk management that enables our competitive edge and reduces the risk to programs, our customers, and the warfighter.
What You’ll Do:
Manage a diverse group of specialized of broadly experienced inspectors, leads, and supervisors who perform incoming material inspection for compliance to specifications including test data, chemical composition, and other qualitative and quantitative attributes.
Manage the performance of Receiving Inspection, monitor and address anomalous part flow, identify, devise, and implement process and fidelity improvements, and work with inspection supervision to address staffing and workload. Oversee personnel performance issues and participate in the hiring and review processes.
Coordinate and standardize process consistency between campuses and business units.
Ensure Ball’s counterfeit mitigation inspection processes keep pace with the ever-changing threat landscape.
Implement and oversee a source inspection group to perform offsite product acceptance.
Partner with Mission Assurance to refine and tailor program requirements for incoming inspection.
Represent the department in customer audits and improvement initiatives.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
BS/BA in related field plus 8 years or more related experience.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

Experience managing people, establishing goals, addressing morale issues and resolving employee conflicts.
The ability to understand, the value and application of work instructions and checklists, and be able to think out of the box to devise solutions to improve consistency, fidelity, and efficiency of inspection.
The ability to quickly learn and master diverse electronic information systems and tools.
The ability to clearly and professionally communicate in both written and oral formats.
Experience performing inspection activities, performing inspection operations, interpreting specifications, and using electronic information systems. Experience includes the use of measurement tools and equipment (MT&E) such as calipers, micrometers, pin gages, gage blocks, optical comparators, Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM), Inductance-Capacitance-Resistance (LCR) meters, X-ray florescence machines, and special tooling, their applications, limitations, and procedures for use.
Experience with non-conforming material handling and metrology concepts.
Proficiency using Windows and common Microsoft Office applications especially Excel and SharePoint.
ASQ certification(s) such as Certified Manager of Quality, Certified Quality Technician Certified Quality Inspector, Certified Quality Engineer preferred.
The majority of experience is in or directly supporting the Aerospace and Defense industry preferred.
Inspection or quality engineering experience with a wide range of components and assemblies including electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical (EEE), optics, machined components, raw materials, and machined assemblies preferred.
Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
