Senior Engineering Managersfocus on efficiently influencing multiple managers and teams so that everyonedelivers against stated plans.##About the RoleAs an Engineering Manager at Uber, you will be leading a groupof engineers working with product managers, data scientists and otherengineering teams to build solutions that support hundreds of thousands ofconcurrent trips by drivers and couriers all around the globe.##What You'll Do* Deliver business impact by working with partners to come up with successmetrics and execute on concrete action plans.* Build and lead teams while attracting top talent to the shared vision of theteam. You will also build and refine the team structure to scale.* Mentor and coach individual contributors to ensure career growth.* Collaborate and influence other business partners by sharing andcommunicating roadmaps with external teams and setting shared goals acrossteams to collectively deliver results efficiently.* Establish the team vision and roadmap by assessing the direction of thecompany and the needs of customer teams. You will align and translate thisinto short team tactical plans and a longer-term vision.* Adapt your team's execution and reprioritize projects to meet changingrequirements or unexpected challenges.* Understand a how your team supports the larger Uber ecosystem and thecritical dependencies therein. You ensure that critical tech debt is addressedappropriately and that on-call rotations are effective, so that theseservices and pipelines consistently meet their SLAs.* Understand the architecture of your team's services and pipelines as wellas any that are dependent. Your prior experience will allow you to provideinput and guidance on the design of new components where needed.##Basic Qualifications* Experience working with PMs, designers and/or data scientists andinfrastructure teams to identify, prioritize, and solve problems* 2+ years of experience managing teams of 6 or more engineers across alllevels.* A computer science, or engineering undergraduate degree or equivalentexperience, including hands-on software development experience.##Preferred Qualifications* 4+ years of experience managing teams of 8 or more engineers across alllevels.* Strong communication skills, including the ability to concisely andaccurately present sophisticated technical designs or other engineeringinformation to engineers, data scientists, and PMs.* Track record of managing, recruiting, and retaining strong engineeringtalent and growing effective teams.* Experience with large-scale, distributed systems, including SQL/NoSQLstorage, transactional updates, asynchronous processing with messagequeues like Kafka, logging, system monitoring, and performance tuning.* Experience with large-scale data storage and processing pipelines withtechnologies like Spark, Hive, HBase, etc.* Experience working with multi-functional, globally distributed teams tocoordinate work and deliver solutions that span multiple teams.
