Where You Will Work:

Located in Boulder, Colorado, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) serves and participates in a collaborative community of researchers and educators who are dedicated to understanding the atmosphere -- the air around us -- and the complex processes that make up the Earth system, from the ocean floor to the Sun’s core. UCAR manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation and the university community.

What You Will Do:

This entry-level position will oversee a variety of project management assignments supporting the construction, remodeling, renovation, and maintenance of buildings and facilities. The position requires full project life-cycle delivery (plan, program, design, construct, operate, maintain and recapitalize). This position carries out a range of professional facilities engineer assignments while supporting a team of experienced facilities engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing Project Management Plans, a Statement of Work, and Project Budget Estimates for projects selected for upgrades or repair.

  • On selected projects, responsible for preparation of schematic work drawings for the construction and maintenance of new or remodeled structures and facilities through use of computer aided design systems.

  • On selected projects, responsible for preparation of Request for Proposal (RFP) documents for design and construction services.

  • For small scope projects, responsible for project management duties with regard to planning and oversight of construction and maintenance remodels.

  • For large projects, participation in project management activities affiliated with the design, construction, testing, start-up, and operation of facilities, systems, and/or equipment including, work breakdown, planning, scheduling, negotiation of deliverables, administration and status reporting.

  • Responsible for conducting periodic inspections of work in progress and advising construction supervisors and contractors on interpretation of plans and specifications.

  • Review of new construction and remodel plans developed by consulting engineers. Monitor and inspect the day-to-day activities of contract staff to ensure contract and specification compliance.

  • Responsible for inspecting existing facilities to ascertain their condition and prepare reports depicting the condition and deficiencies observed. Communicate project details with other facility design engineers.

What You Need:

Education and Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in architecture, engineering or construction management

  • Minimum one (1) years of experience in architectural design, construction or project management.

Preferred experience: 3 plus years of Facilities and O&M experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of architecture, engineering, and building construction sufficient to review and inspect repair and alteration work and new construction of facilities.

  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD.

  • Proficient in MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong ability to maintain a schedule while working on multiple projects.

Additional skills a plus: Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Project Management skills in Facility Operations

  • Architectural design and planning experience

  • Space planning experience

  • Revit cad software experience

  • Knowledge of MS Project or other project management software

  • Knowledge of construction management
