Sr. Professional Research Assistant or Research Associate – Computational Neuroscience

The Department of Neurosurgery has an opening for a full-time Sr. Professional Research Assistant (Sr. PRA) or Research Associate (RA) with experience in Computational Neuroscience to conduct research with human subjects. The position is located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The candidate will work under the direction of Dr. John A. Thompson. The lab is currently using invasive electrophysiology as well as behavioral and computational methods to explore motor related to sleep, decision-making, social decision-making, sensory processing, interoception and memory.
Assist with conducting experiments in a variety of clinical settings: Neurology clinic, the operating room, and the epilepsy monitoring unit.
Acquire, manage, process, and analyze 1) electrophysiological data, including both single neuron spike data and local field potential data, 2) behavioral data, 3) sensor data, 4) neuroimaging data, including structural MRI, CT, and diffusion tensor imaging data.
Use Matlab and Python programming environments/packages to process, explore, analyze, and visualize data.
Compose and edit scientific manuscripts

Master’s degree for Sr. PRA or Doctorate degree for RA in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Bioengineering or related field
1-2 years experience working/participating in a Neuroscience laboratory
2-3 years demonstrated experience with the programming in Matlab – either published examples of work, personal web-based examples (e.g., Medium) or a public repository (e.g., Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket, etc.,)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Experience with signal processing
Experience with machine learning tools/approaches
Previous experience with human scalp-or intracranial EEG or animal intracranial electrophysiology is preferred.
Proven ability to conduct high-quality research evidenced by first author publications
Familiar with neuroimaging software, ITK-SNAP, FSL, Freesurfer, DSI-Studio, AFNI, MRtrix3
Familiar with popular machine learning libraries: pytorch, keras, tensorflow, scikit-learn
Has had previous experience with invasive neural monitoring in humans: intracranial recordings in epilepsy patients or deep brain stimulation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance and operation of specialized equipment
