Professional Research Assistant

_Nature of Work and Profession Field_



The primary duties of this full time Professional Research Assistant position will be to perform molecular biology and biochemistry experiments designed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of pre-mRNA splicing and its role in cancer. Review of applicants will begin as soon as possible and terminate as the position is filled. The University of Colorado is committed to diversity and equality in education and employment.

_Supervision Received_



The Professional Research Assistant will work under the close supervision of the PI, Dr. Rui Zhao, or other senior members of the lab.

_Supervision Exercised_



After an initial training period, the Professional Research Assistant will work independently on his/her own project investigating aspects of the molecular mechanism of pre-mRNA splicing and its role in cancer as well as aid other laboratory personnel with experimentation, as needed.

_Examples of Work Performed_



  • Molecular biology experiments including sub-cloning and mutagenesis

  • Protein and/or RNA expression, purification, and crystallization

  • Biochemical and biophysical analyses of protein/protein interaction and/or enzyme function

  • Yeast genetic experiments to study the function of the gene of interest

  • Mammalian cell culture experiments

  • Assistance in basic operation of lab, including preparation of solutions, ordering of supplies and equipment, and autoclaving material

  • Assistance with analysis of data and preparation of figures for publication

_Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities_



Good understanding of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.

_Minimum Requirements_



BS/BA in molecular biology/biochemistry/chemistry or a related field, or equivalent experience as designated by the Dean or his/her designee.
