Professional Research Assistant

The Department of Orthopedics has an opening for a full time Professional Research Assistant. The position will be part of a clinical trial in orthopedic research that evaluates the efficacy of nutraceuticals on the microbiome and osteoarthritis. Elements of basic science bench work and clinical recruitment will be required.

Participant recruitment into a clinical trial aimed at testing a microbiome-based treatment for osteoarthritis
Sample pickup and coordination
Coordination of tissue preparation, nucleic acid extraction and storage in collaboration with the Tissue and Molecular Imaging Core in the Department of Orthopedics.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Outstanding interpersonal skills, including patient sensitivity
Enthusiasm for this project and other scientific endeavors in the lab
Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
Professional comportment in the confidential recruitment of patients into studies
Ability to work independently as well as a part of a multidisciplinary team
Positive attitude with the desire to advance research
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $36,000 to $39,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in biological science and at least 2 years experience working in a wet lab
Prior sample management experience
Experience with web-based tracking systems (i.e. REDCap, OnCore) and Microsoft Office programs
Experience developing, amending, and executing human protocols, and interaction with the COMIRB in each of these aspects
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Cell/tissue culture experience
Tissue processing experience, including histology sectioning and staining (paraffin and cryo) and immunohistochemistry
qPCR experience
Experience performing flow cytometry and other tissue/blood analytic platforms
Experience sampling, handling, and processing human fecal material
Experience processing and isolating blood sample fractions, i.e. PBMCs
