The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking
applicants for a full-time clinical trials coordinator. The primary responsibility of the position will be to participate in ophthalmic patient care consistent with activities performed as a certified ophthalmic technician. The position is also responsible for regulatory submissions for the department, recruitment and enrollment of study participants, maintaining clinical trial records, IRB submissions, and management of postings in ClinicalTrials.gov. The nature of research involves the study of devices and pharmacological therapies for various ophthalmic diseases including cornea, glaucoma, uveitis, and retinal eye diseases.
Serves as ophthalmic technician for clinical trial patients and performs basic ophthalmic testing including protocol specified refraction, visual acuity, tonometry, pachymetry, imaging and vitals.
Abstracts data from patient charts.
Completes data entry into sponsor electronic data capture systems.
Screens, recruits, enrolls, and manages clinical trial patients for multiple studies.
Works with PI and sponsors to initiate study projects.
Prepares and submits IRB applications, informed consents, budgets, etc for timely approval for sponsored trials.
Assists PI in preparation of protocols, informed consent and HIPAA forms, and applications as necessary for investigator-initiated trials.
Maintains clinical trial records to ensure timely billing and payment by sponsors.
This position is responsible for ophthalmic patient care consistent with activities performed as a certified ophthalmic technician, recruitment and enrollment of study participants, maintaining clinical trial records, IRB submissions, and acting as a liaison between industry, Institutional Review Boards, grants and contracts, principal investigators, and the department administrator.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $41,500 to $76,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a BA/BS. Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) with a minimum of five years of relevant ophthalmic medical experience may be substituted for degree. Classroom and medical experience in ophthalmology to include refraction, tonometry, ETDRS vision testing, pupillary assessment, and ability to perform basic slit lamp exam is required. Experience with IRB submission and GCP requirements is required.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Both classroom and medical experience in ophthalmology to include terminology, clinical standards, history taking, medication reconciliation, ETDRS refraction and visual acuity testing, tonometry, and ability to perform basic slit lamp exam. Must be organized and capable of managing multiple assignments and able to work independently. Must be familiar with use of Microsoft programs and organization of computer files.
Three or more years of clinical research experience in an ophthalmic practice setting.
Prior ophthalmology clinical research experience.
Current Clinical Research Certification (CCRC, CCRA, CCRP) or meets criteria to sit for exam within one year.
Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Knowledge of standard computer programs including Word, Excel, Outlook.
Possesses advanced knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, FDA Rules and Regulations in relation to clinical trials, NIH guidelines, ICH guidelines and HIPAA regulations in relation to clinical trials.
Knowledge of standard protocol design.
