RESEARCH AREA:Mechanism and modulation of pre-mRNA Splicing
Postdoctoral Fellow in the Zhao Laboratory
The laboratory of Dr. Rui Zhaomotivated, independent, creative entry level post-doctoral researcher to join my laboratory at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. My lab is interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of pre-mRNA splicing and its role in disease processes, using a combination of structural (cryoEM and crystallography), biochemical, molecular biology, and cell biology approaches.
Candidates will be expected to plan and execute independent work, write and submit fellowship applications, assist in the writing and publication of experimental results, and contribute positively towards the atmosphere and culture of the lab.
_Specific Position Duties with Percentages of Time_
The postdoc candidate can choose to focus on any one or more of the following projects depending on his/her interest and expertise:
Structural studies of spliceosome and related proteins/RNAs using cryoEM and crystallography;
Functional studies of spliceosomal proteins or RNAs and splicing mechanism using molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology approaches.
The candidate will also assist in the preparation of manuscripts to publish their work, the preparation of grant applications, both internal and external, and the preparation of scientific data for presentation at various meetings and conferences. The candidate will also mentor junior scientists in the lab in their scientific development.
_Salary and Benefits:_
The hiring salary is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation. We are seeking an entry level postdoc (levels 0-1 per NIH Guidelines).

PhD in biology-related field
Strong record of productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized English language journals
Excellent communication skills in the English language
Experience in molecular biology, cell culture, and biochemical techniques
Experience in structural biology is a plus but not required
